Policy Statement
Some of our private hire vehicles are fitted with CCTV in accordance with requirements imposed by South Oxfordshire District Council. The purpose of the system is to help support safety and security for drivers and passengers and to comply with the licensing conditions placed upon us by the local authority.
Scope of the System
The CCTV system records video images only and does not record audio or conversations, as audio recording is generally considered highly intrusive and should be avoided unless there is a very strong justification. Cameras are fitted inside the vehicle and operate only for the purposes set out in this policy.
Storage of Footage
Recorded footage is stored on a memory card within the CCTV unit. The unit is secured with a key lock to prevent unauthorised access. Access to the footage is restricted to authorised persons only, and footage will be retained only for as long as necessary in line with our operational and legal requirements.
Access and Disclosure
We will not share CCTV footage with any third party except the police, unless we are required to do so by law. Requests for footage from other persons or organisations will not normally be accepted, and any disclosure will be handled lawfully and proportionately.
Data Protection and Privacy
The CCTV system is used in a way that is intended to be minimal and proportionate. Notices are displayed in the vehicle to make passengers aware that CCTV is in operation, and the system will only be used for legitimate safety and security purposes. Images of passengers are personal data, so the system will be handled in accordance with data protection law and the applicable guidance.
Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated if there are any changes to licensing requirements, data protection law, or the operation of the CCTV system.
